HEALTH ON THE MOVE

Let’s say someone gave you a brand new Bentley. The manual said you can only use Super Unleaded gasoline. You would follow the instructions with no questions asked because you wouldn’t want the Bentley to have engine problems. How is it that we put whatever we find in our mouth and expect our bodies to look and feel good? We are shocked when we get a cold, have no energy or our bodies don’t look the way we want them to.
What gas is to the car, food is to our body!..
I understand that we have busy lives with work, travel and social events. This is the biggest excuse when it comes to eating healthy and staying active. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard clients say: “ I don’t have time to cook!” or “I travel, so I can’t find healthy food!” or “ I am always in a meeting, I cannot eat until late!” The best one is “I am going out with my friends. I have to drink!” Wow!.. I thought peer pressure was only during high school.
Let’s kill the excuses. Be honest and say you eat out a lot! You can go to any restaurant and ask exactly what you want. One of the best food choices would be a grilled or broiled fish entrée. Make sure you tell them not to put any oil before they cook the fish. Fish is a great source of healthy fats but we do not want to add more to it. Some other good food choices are, grilled chicken, salad with fish or chicken, sushi, sashimi and fillet mignon. I would like to warn you that a lot of restaurants inject fat or not so healthy seasonings in chicken. You can even stop by at any fast food restaurant and ask for a couple of grilled chicken patties to go. They will give it to you.
I always tell my clients to have emergency food in your car and in your office. Throw an apple, a bag of raw nuts or a couple of ready - made protein shakes in your car and office. You never know when you are going to need it.
What about alcohol? Chemically, the body recognizes alcohol as poison. I know it is a little harsh but it is true. The moment you ingest a sip of alcohol the body literally shuts itself down to get the alcohol out of the system. That is why when you start drinking, you go pee a lot and very frequently. That is the body’s way to get rid of POISON! Wow! You will never hear that on TV.
